Window Energy Ratings? / Exchangeability?

Any comments about the Window Energy Rating Scheme and its impact on the industry?

How do you feel about exchangeability of products deemed as 'similar' being permitted in the Window Energy Rating Scheme as they are within EN1279 standards so that window companies and sealed unit manufacturers are not bound to specific brands of a product?

I am absolutely astounded at the lack of information on the BFRC website for the Part L changes that will effect so many businesses. I have tried for weeks to get definitive answers to my questions but all the answers seem to contain the words "I think / so I have been told / as far as I am aware" Where are the GGF who supposedly represent the glass and glazing industry and why are they not fighting our corner against all the issues raised.

I have already made my view clear on this blog some time ago. I am left wondering though if anyone invovled in implementing the WERs actual reads the views of the businesses they are looking to close down. Are we all wasting our time here. Also I am yet to find anyone in any organisation that is able to answer the simpliest question about WERs other than if they think they will get rich or go bust. We all know that answer from the BFRC directors and they don't care about the rest of us.

Its been very interesting reading the comments on this message board and yes I believe the changes to document L this october will be the most difficult the ig industry will experience, I still believe that the WER scheme will ultimately be a good thing for our industry unfortunately there will be casualties who have not invested time and money into their business to be fully compliant. I just hope many issues like exchangability and being able to supply customers who buy frames in from one company and their units from another will still be able to do so with relative ease, and some control must be handed back to the sealed unit manufacturer, hopefully these points will be resolved in the coming months until they have I must carry on making several combinations of sealed units.
